We bit the bullet!

We first looked into buying in to the Disney Vacation Club in 1995 or so. Our two daughters were in elementary school and we enjoyed going to Disney World as often as we could, so it made sense to check it out. We went to a group deal where we were two of twenty or so folks who watched a slide show demonstration. I recall that we didn't seem to find the value in buying, at that time. In retrospect, it would have been a great idea to buy in back then. Now we are both retired, for the most part. The hubs still ref’s basketball and I have community activities that keep me busy, but the days of working a regular schedule are long over! Our annual pilgrimage to Disney World during the Christmas Holiday has changed. When the girls were in school it was easy to take a week during Winter Break, book a room at one of the groovy resorts and burn up our park hopper passes. Then the college days came around, scheduling was a bit more difficult with busy social schedules but we still made it a priority. This was our family thing. We found ourselves staying at higher end resorts and booking 2 rooms, one for the hubs and I & one for the "kids". It wasn't uncommon for us to spend $5,000.00 for the week, just in accommodations. The "kids" were given a $25.00 per day spending limit on their resort keys so they wouldn't go nuts with their spending. Do you see where this is going? Now we are traveling with our youngest (adult) daughter, our oldest daughter, her husband and their beautiful daughter! Nothing less than a 2 bedroom villa is even considered now! After our stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas in December 2012, we decided to check in to the DVC again. We set an appointment with a Vacation Club Guide and went in with a bunch of questions. After a few days we paid cash for 160 points and were amazed at how many places we could visit, using our DVC points! For me, there was a lot to learn about banking and borrowing of points, booking and how we cold even rent our unused points to others if we chose to do so. The 5 pound satchel of paperwork and booklets was a lot to take in! We are excited to book our first stay as official Disney Vacation Club Members!
